Joanna N. Schwickerath, 79, of Waterloo, died at UnityPoint Health- Allen Hospital, on Monday April 20, 2015.
She was born on November 08, 1935 in Iowa City. Joanna graduated high school and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from Hawkeye Community College. She taught classes in cake decorating, painting and microwave cooking courses. She was member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church.
Joanna used to say she was ‘a jack of all trades but master of none’, but in reality she mastered whatever she put her mind to, and the list was long. She taught herself cake decorating and became an instructor, painting was the same. She was a marvelous cook and until the day she died she was online looking at recipes.
Let’s not forget the iPad- she LOVED it! There is no doubt had she been born later in the century she would have been a hacker. And then there is Candy Crush- she held a competition with a nurse at Northcrest- her goal was to reach level 400 before she died. She made it to level 447.
She loved to fish and she could bowl a 300 game of Wii bowling – She loved people and really loved to laugh. She will be missed so much. But knowing her – she’s probably challenging the angels to a game of Candy Crush.
She is survived by: a son, John (Kathie) Ohrt of Waterloo; a daughter, Janice (Eugene) VanDeest of Plover, IA; a daughter, Carol (George) Clark of Evansdale; a sister, Virginia Smith of Paris, AR; Seven Grandchildren and 16 Great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Anne Maria Ohrt; and a great grandson, Dominick Lamar Ohrt.
