Joan “Joanie” Schellhorn, 53, of Waterloo, died at her home on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from complications of heart failure. She was born September 5, 1955 in Sioux Center, Iowa, daughter of John and Elizabeth Roskam Vander Weide.

She married Merlin Statema; they were later divorced; she married Marvin Schellhorn on February 13, 2006.

Joanie graduated from Sioux Center High School. She worked for Cedar Falls Public Library as a custodian for several years and then did lawn care maintenance and landscaping in the local area. She enjoyed walking the nature trails at Hartman Reserve and fishing for blue gills at George Wythe.

She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Joanie is survived by her husband Marvin Schellhorn of Waterloo, daughter Dawn Statema of Orange City, son Kevin Statema of Sioux Center, mother Elizabeth Vander Weide of Inwood, sister Sharon (Paul) Vander Weide of Grand Rapids, MI, sister Ruth (Mike) Post of Inwood, sister Deb (Brian) Wallenburg of Inwood, sister Pat (Smitty) Smidt of Stratford County, VA, stepdaughters Ashley Schellhorn, Harley Ann Schellhorn, and Jesse Schellhorn all of Waterloo.

She is preceded in death by her father.
