Jessica Mae Abernathy

Jessica Mae Lien Abernathy, 35, of Marion and formerly of Waterloo, went home Sunday, June 22, 2025, and was received into the arms of the Lord, while a patient at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born in Waterloo on September 14, 1989, the daughter of Michael and Wendy Lien. Jessica worked as a nanny serving many families and married Ryan Abernathy on November 18, 2017. She was a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Jessica had a smile that would light up the room. She was the family peacemaker and always helped keep her brothers grounded. Jessica loved thunderstorms, birds, reading and movies. She loved anything Disney, especially Beauty and the Beast. Jessica loved nighttime drives to nowhere specific but always with her music blasting. More important, she loved God and desired to be in worship whenever possible. She met the love of her life, Ryan, while working at Home Depot in Waterloo. Jessica was the kindest and sweetest person anyone could ever meet. She is no longer in pain or sorrow, and she is dancing on the streets of gold waiting for her friends and family to join her in Heaven.

Jessica is survived by her husband, Ryan, of Marion; her parents, Michael and Wendy Lien of Waterloo; brothers Chris Lien and Kurtis Culbert both of Waterloo; and her closest friend and cousin, Amanda Price of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Funeral services for Jessica will be Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
