Jerry DeWain Albert

November 10, 1948 September 10, 2024

Jerry DeWain Albert, 75, of La Porte City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 10, 2024. He was born November 10, 1948, at the Vinton Hospital, son of Clarence and Mabel (Fish) Albert. He was raised on their farm near Brandon and graduated from Independence High School in 1967.

Jerry married Pamela Smit April 21, 1979, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a devoted loving husband throughout their 45 years of marriage.

He started working at the Old Creamery in Independence during high school, while also working on the farm with his dad and brother. He then worked at the gas station and Boubin Tire and Automotive in Independence. Jerry found his passion for selling machinery, a career that lasted 44 years, when he started working at Massey Ferguson in Independence, after that he worked at the Washburn location "south of Waterloooo" until it closed, and went on to work at Keystone Sindt Implement, a John Deere dealership, retiring in 2014. His skill at sales earned him many trips around the world with Pam, including Ireland, Russia, Sweden and Germany to name a few. He and Pam also loved spending winters in Florida where it was warm, especially after they purchased their home in Ft. Meyers in 2014. They also enjoyed spending time at Angie's cabin in Mt. Auburn. He liked fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and boating, and was an AVID Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Jerry loved his old cars, starting with a 65 GTO, and then Yenkos: a 1970 Yenko Nova, and Yenko Camaros. He frequented car shows, where he and Pam would drag race (Pam won though) He also was a regular at the races, in the pits, and as a flagger. Jerry made friends easily everywhere he went.

Family was the most important thing to Jerry. Nearly every weekend was spent at the family farm when his children were growing up so they could experience farm life. He also loved to reminisce at the family reunions every year. This year the reunion came to him. He loved watching his grandchildren grow, he was a true family man.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Pam; his children Nickie (Jerry) Fuller of Boston, Angie (Jim) Jackson of Cedar Rapids, Mitchell (Anne) Albert of Grimes, and Tonia (Nate) Reel of La Porte City; fifteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lacey Rouse and son-in-law Luke Rouse, his sister Jayleen Huddleston, brother Steve Albert, father Clare Albert and mother Darlene Albert.
