Jerry D James

Jerry D. James, 67, of Waterloo, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1957, in Chicago, IL, the son of Curtis and Clara Walton James.

Jerry graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1976 and earned his Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from Hawkeye Community College. He dedicated his career to caring for others, working as a CNA at Manor Care in Waterloo.

On April 27, 1991, Jerry married Susan M. Gavigan at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Waterloo.

Jerry enjoyed working out, playing pinball, and traveling. His favorite destination was Adventureland Park in Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, Susan James of Waterloo; daughters, Stephanie Kay James and Amy Jo James, both of Waterloo; brother, Curtiss (Veladia) James, Jr. of Waterloo; sister, Lela James of Denver, CO; and brother, Larry James of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Clara James, and a sister in infancy.

The family will have a memorial service in late April 2025, near their anniversary. It will be at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Please wear red or a red ribbon. More information to come later. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com.
