Jerald Lee Chapin

Jerry Chapin, 80, of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at home.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School.

Jerry served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era stationed on the USS Renville. He retired from John Deere Engine Works with 40½ years of service and was a member of UAW Local 838.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Olivia Ortega, his parents, Jim Sr and Mary Chapin, a sister, Susan Damge, and brother-in-law, Rick Damge.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; a son, Stuart; two daughters, Ann (Caine) Thomas and Holly (Chris) Ortega; eight grandchildren; a brother, Jim Chapin; and a sister, Mary (Kerry) Eckenrod.

A Funeral Mass for Jerry will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 650 Stephan Ave, Waterloo, with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends for an hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
