It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Millen, who left us far too soon on August 2, 2026, following a tragic motorcycle accident. Born May 3, 1968, in Tallahassee, Florida, Jeff lived a life defined by love, service, laughter, and adventure.
Above all else, Jeff was an amazing father to his three children, Cashton Millen, Chase Millen, and Samuel Nightingale, who were the greatest pride and joy of his life. He was also a beloved son to Dave and Linda Rempe and a cherished brother to Jeremy Millen, Alyssa Rempe, and Michael Rempe. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit brought warmth to the lives of his family and countless friends.
Jeff dedicated 32 years of service to the Tempe Police Department, serving with distinction and courage. Throughout his career, he served in many roles, including motorcycle patrol, bicycle patrol, SWAT, and undercover operations, ultimately retiring as a Sergeant. He took great pride in mentoring new officers and helping establish the department’s cyber search and security unit. His dedication to serving and protecting others was a defining part of who he was.
Outside of work, Jeff embraced life with enthusiasm. He was President of the Friday Family Club, as he loved his friends as if they were family. He loved motorcycles, snowboarding, skateboarding, rock climbing, bicycling, camping, and video gaming, always seeking his next adventure. His athleticism, competitive spirit, and love of the outdoors were a constant throughout his life.
Those who knew Jeff will remember his quick wit, infectious laughter, and ability to make people feel like friends. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and never seemed to run out of stories or adventures to share. His presence touched countless lives, and his memory will remain with all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Waterloo Police Department, Waterloo Fire and Rescue, and the Iowa State Highway Patrol for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at 1:00pm on October 17th, at Locke Funeral Services. 4140 Kimball Ave. Waterloo, IA 50701.

I just learned of your tragic loss! Please know that you and family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
I’m so sorry that I could not be there for Jeff’s celebration of life. Jeff was one of my dearest friends. And am heartbroken for everyone’s loss. Jeff was such a great guy and so fun to be around. I hope his family knows how much his other families loved him and that you can find comfort in all of your memories.
Sorry for your loss. He will be missed by his friends in and out of law enforcement. God speed Jeff.
I went to the police academy with Jeff and three others from Tempe. We were a band of brothers over the years. Jeff was a great cop and even a better friend. I’m heartbroken for his other friends and family and happy for Jeff as I know where he will spend eternity. God speed Jeff and rest in peace, brother.

Jeff was such a smart and fun guy to work around. His dedication to his community was amazing. He will truly be missed by many. Very sorry for the loss to the family and to those he meant so much to.
Jeff was my supervisor for several years and I always felt like he truly cared about me on a personal basis as well as being a professional mentor. I know many other officers felt the same way. Jeff was always one of the smartest people in the room and I frequently tried to sneak a large word into each of my reports for both our enjoyment. Even after retirement he would reach out to me for birthdays and after a critical incident at work when he learned of it. Jeff was a person who tried to find the best in others, and I considered him a good friend. He will be missed and I am sorry for your loss.
I am so saddened by the unexpected loss of Jeff. He brought in humor and laughter to the workplace. Seeing him transform into different characters for special events and fundraisers was just amazing. He loved his job but definitely loved his kids and was willing to do anything to assure they were taken care of. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Jeff.
Our family’s thoughts and prayers are with your family and all of Jeff’s friends. Jeff was an amazing friend, co-worker, supervisor, and someone I always looked up to at the police department. There wasn’t a time when I met Jeff that he didn’t have a smile on his face or a positive thought to share. When I read his obituary and see a comment that he lived “boldly”, I completely agree. He embodied a life full of adventure and fighting for the right cause. He will be greatly missed!
Jeff was a great son, father and friend. May all find peace in the memories you and Jeff created together. He was a kind and gentle man. He will be missed by many.

My goodness this is terrible, worked for Jeff several years in patrol, this guy had my back100%. I’m going to miss you Jeff.

Jeff was one of my police academy classmates. I remember going out on weekends in Tempe, he was a character and pretty funny guy..Condolences to his family and friends..
I was so sad to hear about Jeff’s passing. He was my academy classmate, my roommate and most importantly my friend. Jeff was extremely funny, smart, thoughtful and loyal. Prayers from our entire Humble family for Jeff, his sons, extended family and friends. RIP Jeff. 🫡💙🙏🏻
