Jason Johann Henry

September 10, 1984 September 19, 2023

Jason J. Henry, 39, of Evansdale, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 19th at his home, in Evansdale.

Jason Johann Henry was born on September 10, 1984, in Waterloo, to his parents Robert Sr. and Deborah (Stave) Henry. A lifelong Evansdale resident, Jason attended school in Evansdale, later graduating from Waterloo East High School in 2003. After high school, Jason's family would tell you he "sewed his wild oats". He later attended Hawkeye Community College, where he studied auto mechanics. For many years, Jason had several odd jobs, but his primary role was being a caregiver for his father.

He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, painting, smoking meats and entering food competitions, and he absolutely loved spending time with his older brother Bobby, helping him with anything he needed, whether it was tinkering in the garage or just being his "side kick".

Jason's father nicknamed him "short Jab", and that comes from being strong willed; the fact of the matter is that anyone that knew Jason, knew that beyond anything else, he had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Although Jason's time on earth was cut far too short, the love his family and friends showed him was immeasurable. He will forever be remembered and celebrated through the many memories, stories, and love he shared.

He is survived by his father Robert "Bob" Henry Sr. of Evansdale; siblings Robert "Bobby" Jr. (Bonnie) Henry of Evansdale, Dawn (Scott) Van Tassell of Ekron, KY, Jamie (John) Hoyt of Rogers, MN and older half-sister, Lori; nieces and nephews Katie (Brenner) Morrow-Deutsch, Jacqueline Henry, Ashtin and William Birkicht, Kierstan (Scotty) Anderson, Jadynmarie, Jaina, and Jacen Hoyt; great nieces and nephews Eli and Arlo Morrow-Deutsch, Kiernan Van Tassell, Maverick Anderson, Lincoln and Everett Birkicht; numerous extended family members. Jason is preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Henry; sister Cody Ann Henry; nephew Jonathan Hoyt Jr.; maternal and paternal grandparents; uncles Daniel Stave and Raymond Henry.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12th from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 PM at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., Waterloo, IA. Inurnment will follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.
