James “Jim” Allan Knight, 79, of Evansdale, stepped into Glory on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was born on February 3, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Clyde and Dorothy Bailey Knight. Jim graduated from Waterloo West High School and Hansen’s Trade School in Fargo, ND. He married Linda Mae Heronimus on September 16, 1972, and the couple was blessed with one son, Tom. Jim worked as a mechanic with International Harvester and as a machinist with Lewis Motor before he and Linda opened Knight Repair, Inc. where he rebuilt generators, alternators, starters, and Detroit Diesel engines. Jim served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam era. He was an E-member of Shorewood Bible Church of Rolling Meadows, IL.
Possessing a great, strong faith, Jim is remembered as a very talented, hardworking man who was hard to keep up with. He always believed he should work hard during the week so that staying awake during church on Sunday was easy because he was stiff and sore. Jim was the most honest man you would ever meet and was always willing to help one of his customers out of a bind. He enjoyed snowmobiling, canoeing, hunting and fishing, and learned how to garden as an adult. Jim was a great father and excellent teacher and believed knowing how to do something was good, but knowing why you do something was even better. He enjoyed having his son, Tom, in the shop with him as he showed Tom how to use his various tools. Jim loved lemon filled cake and the annual family fish fries every Christmas.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda, and son Tom (Shanda) Knight and their daughter Lydia, all of Evansdale, and many other family members and friends. He was preceded by his sister Linda Lindaman.
Visitation for Jim will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 2-4 pm at Locke on 4th Street, 1519 W 4th St, Waterloo with private family burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lockefuneralservices.com.

Oh no, so saddened to recieve this news
Very few people I’ve held in such high regard. Sincere condolences and blessings to the family
Jim and Linda were our good friends. They helped us out for several summers at Story Book Lodge Christian Camp in northern Minnesota. They were wonderful helpers in the kitchen, willing to help out with anything that needed to be done. Besides washing the pots and pans, Jim could fix anything mechanical.
Jim and Linda loved the Lord, the Lord’s people and all the kids that came to camp.
Jim and Linda were wonderful partners together.
Linda and Tom…Im so sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. He was a wonderful, faith-filled man. You remain in my prayers…
Linda
I am very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing
The two of you working side by side fixing those starters and Alternators. I’m sure you could have done them with your eyes closed. You two were awesome people to do business with.
I imagine Jim will have those Alternators in heaven at peak performance and making it bright for the day you make your arrival
God Bless and may God put his hands upon you . And offer his Guidance
