James Lawrence Glass

James L. "Jim" Glass, 83, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 3, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born February 28, 1940, in Waterloo, to Donald and Julia Madsen Glass and graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy (OLVA), Waterloo in 1958. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1962 with an honorable discharge.

Jim married Rosemary Freeland February 16, 1963, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waterloo.

He worked for Deere & Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1995 as a special investigator at Westfield Ave and a member of UAW Local 838.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Waterloo Amvets. Jim was past President of the Waterloo Bowling Association and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1999. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. He played in men's softball leagues for years and coached Optimist baseball. He loved attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with family and friends.

James is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughters, Kristine Glass, and Lori (Bill) Guelner, and son, Richard (Lisa) Glass, all of Waterloo; 4 grandchildren, Alexa and Kennedy Guelner, and Gregory and Ryan Glass; sister, Barbara (Virgil) Strottman of Sun City, AZ; brother-in-law, Gary Jorgensen of New Hartford; two nieces, Brenda (John) Brewer and Julie (A.D.) Osborne; and four nephews, David Strottman, Pat (Nancy) Jorgensen, Bob (Diane) Jorgensen and B.J. (Staci) Jorgensen.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Jorgensen.

Funeral Services: 1:30 PM, Saturday, July 8, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, July 7, with 6:30 vigil at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., and an hour before services at the church.
