Jack M. Zabel, age 82, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born November 7, 1931 in Waterloo, the son of Hugo and Evelyn (Morris) Zabel. Jack graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1950. He was united in marriage with Mattie Lou Garner on December 13, 1953 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death in March 1978. Jack was united in marriage with Doris Ann Larsen Scoles on March 11, 1983 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Jack was a supervisor at the John Deere & Co. P.E.C. for 38 years, retiring in February 1993. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Cedar Falls; 2 sons, Craig (Connie) Zabel of Dike, IA and Kevin (Kim) Zabel of Cedar Falls; 2 daughters, Peggy Decker of Sterling, VA and Kris (David) Leith of Houston, TX; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 half- brothers, Ralph (Anne) Carr of Bosque Farms, NM, Bill (Carol Ann) Carr and Bernie Todd, all of Lingle, WY; 3 half-sisters, Carol Peterson and Virginia (Marv) Reib, all of Torrington, WY and Pat Martin of Belen, NM.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
