Irene Leona Jones

Irene Leona Jones, 99, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, while a resident of Deery Suites at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls. She was born on July 8, 1925, the daughter of Ira and Nellie Larrew Hartman, in Boone, IA. Irene graduated from Boone High School in 1943, married Earl Jones on July 20, 1946, who passed on February 4, 1992. The couple was blessed with four children.

Irene was a homemaker and a mother to many. She was a very energetic person who could (and would) fix just about anything. Although Irene was loving, she was also a bold and blunt spitfire who was always busy with little time to watch TV. Instead, she spent her time baking, cooking, gardening and crocheting. She was always open for a good game of cards and did crafts to perfection. Her garden was always well tended, and her yard was well kept. Irene loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Irene's life was a testimony to her strong belief in Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of Community Church of the Nazarene.

Irene is survived by her children, Grace (Gary) Heit of Elk Run Heights, Kathy Jones of Mason City, and Les (Rosemary) Jones of Waterloo; grandchildren. Matthew (Brianne) Heit, Heather (John Powers) Heit, Rick (Kim) Heit, Dustin (Ceison) Heit, Jaime (Jon) Burleson, Jeremy (Michelle) Jones, Dylan Collins, Rachel (Pete) Buxton, and Matthew (Christi) Porter; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Wesley Jones; and siblings Ira Hartman Jr, Iva (Alvin) Carrier, Larrine (Ken) Mott, Evelyn (Don) Wedemeier, and Luella (Harley) Troutwine.

The funeral service will be Monday, March 3, 2025, at Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene, 3622 Hammond Ave, Waterloo at 2:00 PM, with a visitation an hour prior to the service.
