Ione (Scott) Hayes, 93, formerly of Hudson, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, in her residence at Hillcrest Cottages in Papillion, Nebraska.
Ione was born in Audubon County, Iowa, in March 1919. She attended school in Viola Township, and after graduation, earned a degree at Central City Community College in Des Moines. Ione worked at Frack Plumbing in Audubon and at Lee Larson Advertising in Waukesha, Wisconsin, after completing community college.
Ione enlisted in the US Navy WAVES in February 1943 and served at the Pentagon until her discharge in July 1945. She married JD Hayes, also of Audubon County and also a member of the US Navy, in Washington, D.C. in May 1945. They moved to Ames, Iowa, after their release from the Navy so JD could complete his college education at Iowa State College.
In January 1947, with their one-year-old son Dean, they moved to Hudson. Ione soon after began employment at the Cooperative of Hudson and worked there as head bookkeeper for over 30 years. Ione’s passions included birds, painting and antiques. She was a member of the Tuesday Study Club and was a President of the Hudson Community Church women’s group.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband, JD, her parents Clifford and Anna Scott, and by two sisters and a brother. She is survived by son Dean Hayes (Judy Hornor) of Bellevue, Nebraska, grandchildren Alan (Whitney Edwards) of Omaha, and Angie Wilhelm (Brad) of Wichita, Kansas, and three great grandchildren.
