Horst Heinz Zimmermann

Horst Zimmermann, 96, of Washburn, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. He was born July 17, 1926, in Gross Borken, Germany, son of Johann and Wilhelmina (Böhnke) Zimmermann. He attended school in Germany.

Horst married Karin Lorenzen April 9, 1948, in Germany. She preceded him in death in 1987. They moved to America in 1951 for new opportunities. He later married Vivian Jokumsen April 15, 1989, in Cedar Falls, she died April 22, 2000.

Upon arriving in America, Horst started working on the Peck farm in Winthrop. In 1961 he began working for Waterloo Industries where he was a sheer operator until retiring. Horst was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls where he had been active in church activities. He also volunteered for hospice. Horst built may ships, and one beautiful dollhouses. In his later years he enjoyed traveling across the US and Europe.

He is survived by his three sons: Harro of Kenosha Wi, Bernd "Ben" (Jean) of Hudson, and Manfred (Sue) of Pensacola, Fl; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Karin and Vivian, and his eight siblings.

Services will be held Friday December 9, 2022, at 11AM at Locke at Tower Park. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 8 from 5-7 PM at Locke at Tower Park. Burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com
