Harold “Bud” James Brouwer, 90, of Waterloo, died at home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

Bud was born on April 16, 1926 in Britt, Iowa, son of John P. and Hanna (Sweers) Brouwer. He married Frances R. Lassahn on October 18, 1946 in Britt. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1998.

Bud worked for Rath Packing for 35 years as a laborer. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS and he enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking, watching NASCAR, and Iowa Hawkeyes Football.

Bud is survived by: a son, Dale Brouwer of Waterloo; a daughter, Sharon (Rick) Garthoff of Evansdale; a brother, John Brouwer of Cedar Falls; four sisters: Esther Rapp of Garner, Tena Cook of Kanaha, Helen Shipp of Waterloo, and Norma (Kay) Schuver of Bemidji, MN; four grandchildren: Douglas Brouwer, Jr., Paul Brouwer, Heather (John) Schaefer and Phillip Garthoff; four great-grandchildren and one step great-grandson; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Frances; a son, Douglas Brouwer; two brothers: Jake Brouwer and Phillip Brouwer in childhood; a sister, Cornelia Schiebel.
