Gordon Wynn Cox, 57, of Hiawatha, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by family, close friends, and his dogs. He was born December 13, 1965, to Terry and Joyce (Shannon) Cox. He graduated from Central High School, Waterloo, in 1984.
On May 19, 2001, Gordon married Suzanne Wiest in Waterloo. He worked as a sales manager for Intertrade – A Collins Aerospace Company and was well known in the aviation world.
Gordon was passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a hands-on crafty kind of guy who could fix or build anything. If there was anything you couldn't do, Gordon could do it for you. Gordon loved to entertain for his friends and family. He also loved his German Shepherds. Suzanne and Gordon liked to travel, especially to Florida, Arizona, and Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughters: Nicole (Doug) Tallerico of Waukee, Chelsea (Jake) Lancaster of Middleton, Wi, and Mariah Cox of Hiawatha; son Dakota (Mallory) Paeper of Waterloo; grandchildren: Harrison, William, and Owen Tallerico; Briar and Wynn Paeper; and Ilia Lancaster; mom, Joyce Leininger of Evansdale; sisters: Melody Cox of Prairie Du Chein, Wi, and Michele Carnes of Waterloo; his father-in-law Bob Wiest of Evansdale; mother and father-in-law Chris (Terry) Christianson of Hiawatha; his German Sheperds: Tripp, Piper, and Theo; the Fab 5; and his aviation family.
He was preceded in death by his father Terry Cox, and step-father Arnie Leininger.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, at 3:00 PM, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, with a Celebration of Life from 4:00 – 7:00 at Locke at Tower Park. Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to thank Unity Point Hospice for their incredible care. Especially Chris, Emilee, and Bobbi Jo.
