Glen Huffman, 91, of Evansdale, formerly of Waterloo, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, due to complications from heart surgery at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
He was born on September 25, 1934, in Ionia, the son of Harvey and Alma (Thompson) Huffman. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1952.
Glen married Jean McAllen on June 12, 1954, in Williamstown, Iowa. Together, they shared over 72 years of marriage.
He was a telephone technician serving in many capacities over the years. In 1960, he started his career working for Northwestern Bell as a telephone lineman, which later became AT&T, where he worked as a communications technician, installing phone systems until his retirement in 1988. It was then that he started Huffman Communications, which he owned and operated until selling the business in 1994.
Glen was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale.
He greatly enjoyed woodworking, whether it was small projects or total home renovations. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially watching Lawrence Welk on TV with his family – a tradition that was passed on through the generations. Glen was a long-time supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed roller skating in his younger years. Later in life, he liked going to the casino in Tama. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Glen is survived by his wife, Jean Huffman of Evansdale; six children, Dennis (Lori) Huffman of Cedar Falls, Connie (Richard) Mezera of Elk Run Heights, Tom (Shelly) Huffman of Buckeye, Jeff Huffman of Independence, Bob (Jamie) Huffman of Eldora, and Diane (Jon) Hanson of Raymond; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Charles, John, Russell, and Wendell Lampson, and Harvey and Harold Huffman; and three sisters, Nina Smith, Ethel Diesburg, and Mildred Lore.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale, with burial at Poyner Township Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation for one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com. My deepest condolences to you Dennis and your entire family.
I remember Glen as a quiet, patient, family loving man.
My love to you cousin Jean and your family.
Chad. My sympathy to you upon the death of your brother-in-law.
My heartfelt condolences.
Glen & Jean have been my neighbors for over 20 years, great neighbors, always a friendly smile. Fortunately for me Glenn couldn’t always eat all the deserts that Jean made and I would benefit. I’ll miss Glen.
Jean made desserts not deserts
We will miss you uncle glen. Loved to sit and talk about anything. Carrying a conversation with him was so simple. What a kind and good man he was. Kim always felt that through Glen her dad Harvey was still with her.
We are so sorry to hear of Glens passing. We have so many wonderful memories of your family growing up, Grandma Huffman raised true gentleman. We were blessed to have him in our lives. Our sympathies and Gods blessings to all.
