Gertrude Barbara Jacobson

Gertrude Barbara Jacobson, 98, formerly of Waterloo and Walnut Ridge, AR, passed away at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Gertrude was born on November 23, 1925, in North Washington, IA, daughter of Henry and Susan Dockendorf Schwickerath. Gertrude graduated from Clermont School.

She married Carl C. Jacobsen on January 17, 1948, in Kirksville, MO. They had six children. Carl passed away on December 15, 1983. Gertrude married Leroy V. Jacobson on November 28, 1987, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2006. She was a homemaker and belonged to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club #4074. She was an active reader and crocheted beautiful pieces for her family and friends.

Gertrude is survived by five children, Connie Sluder of Walnut Ridge, AR, Michael (Cheryl) Jacobsen of Dysart, Carl (Michele) Jacobsen, Jr., of Mena, AR, Joyce (Michael) Chesser of Imboden, AR, and Joseph (Lori) Jacobsen of Plano, TX. She also has six stepchildren, Dolores Moore, Linda Brooks, and Allen, Eugene, Gary, and David Jacobson; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Jacobsen, and Leroy Jacobson; one daughter, Georgia Bashta; son-in-law, Dan Sluder; four sisters, Anges Kirst, Rose Weigle, Louise Buchholz, and Ann Cummings; and three brothers, Peter, Bernard, and Arthur Schwickerath.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to a hospice organization of your choice.
