Gerold “Jerry” Leland Jackson

Gerold "Jerry" Jackson, 82, of La Porte City, died on Monday, May 5, 2025 at his home.

He was born February 4, 1943 in Waterloo, the son of Truman and Wilma (Christopher) Jackson. Jerry married Donna Jean Sparks in Nashua April 16, 1966.

He worked at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 1996. Jerry honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Jerry loved the outdoors, deer hunting, fishing, gardening, yardwork and he was a gifted handyman. He was an avid Hawkeye fan. Jerry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by: his wife, Donna; son, Jeffrey (Steph) Jackson of La Porte City; daughter, Jolyn (Tim) Holman of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Jordan, Hannah, and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Payton, Jace, Noah, and Everly; sister, Norma Hines of La Porte City; sister-in-law, Nancy Jackson of La Porte City; brother-in-law, Don (Diana) Sparks of Dysart; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Ray) Pippert of Dysart; sister-in-law, Deb (Larry) Mehlert of La Porte City; brother-in-law, Dennis (Lisa) Sparks of La Porte City; brother-in-law, Dwain (Libby) Sparks of Coralville; and brother-in-law, Dan (Stephanie) Sparks of La Porte City.

Gerold is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Jackson and Richard Jackson; a sister, Mary Selk; and his grandson, Noah.

Services: 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, with burial in West View Cemetery in La Porte City and military Rites by the La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post 207. Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Locke at Tower Park in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.
