Francine Dawn Roberts

Francine Dawn Roberts, affectionately known as "Frank", passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a brief illness.

Francine was born on June 7, 1966, in Iowa City, Iowa, to her parents Arthur and Sharon (Fink) Roberts. She was raised in Dunkerton where she attended school and after high school, she attended Hawkeye Community College and Upper Iowa University, where she studied accounting. Francine worked various odd jobs but the most important job to her was being a mom. In her later years, she worked at the Army Recruiting Center in Waterloo, a job she enjoyed very much.

When Francine was not busy being the BEST mom and grandma, she enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, her dogs, a good cup of coffee, good conversation, good company, but above all, she loved her family immensely, and spending time with them. Francine was kind, selfless, and always put others before herself. She was witty, wise beyond her years, but was also feisty when she needed to be. Her nurturing heart brought on the privilege of being a foster mom, something she also enjoyed. Although we don't know why her life was cut too short, her family takes great comfort in the memories, stories, and love from Francine. She will be dearly missed, but her light will continue to shine.

Francine is survived by her parents Sharon Roberts of Waterloo and Art (Maggie) Roberts of Dunkerton; children Justin (Mirela) Sternat of Cedar Rapids, Melissa (Marcus) Hanawalt of Cedar Falls, and Megan Hanawalt of Waterloo; step-daughter Jami (Clayton) Schloemer of Waterloo; grandchildren Nathan, Isabella, Gabriella, Julianna, William, Matthew, Mila, Jaleya, Javeon, Jayden, Jamia, Raina and Journey; siblings Michael (Lindy) Roberts of Virginia, Mark (Stephanie) Roberts of Missouri, Jeff (Deb) Roberts of Tama, Lisa (Brian) Wrage of Gladbrook, Tracy Roberts and Christine Roberts, both of Denver; many nieces and nephews; her furry companion Riley. She rejoins in Heaven her grandparents Vern and Dorothy Courtney and Daryl and Wilma Roberts; brother Scott Roberts; furry companions Haley and Asia.

Visitation for Francine will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Locke at Tower Park. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12th at 11:00 AM at Locke at Tower Park. Cremation rites will follow, and inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
