Eugene “Gene” T. Papenheim, age 88, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born September 11, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Anna Atz and was raised by his adoptive parents, Henry and Anna Papenheim. Gene graduated from New Hampton High School. He married Alice Boeding in September 1945 in Lawler, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 6, 1991. Gene worked as a machinist and a truck driver for Chamberlain Manufacturing for 15 years, retiring on January 29, 1988. Gene was a proud member of the machinist’s union and a member of St John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Jerry) Ford of Cedar Rapids; 3 sons, Gene Papenheim, Jr. of Waterloo; Bob (Terri) Papenheim of Cedar Falls and Gary (Shelly) Papenheim of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, David, Robert Jr., Nicholas, Jennifer, Andrew and Benjamin; 3 step grandchildren, Tracy, Cory and Taylor and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter-in-law, Lori Papenheim and a sister, Marie Elenz.
