Emery H. Schnack, 93, of 710 Denver Street, Waterloo, died at ManorCare Health Services on Monday, April 23, 2007, of natural causes.
He was born January 31, 1914 in Gladbrook, son of Herman and Emma Budolfsen. Following the death of his mother when he was one year old, he was adopted by his Aunt and Uncle Lena and Albert Schnack.
Emery graduated from Charles City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines with the 168th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.
He married Marion Hile Jarosh in 1947 in Humbolt, Iowa. She died January 27, 1992. Emery and his wife farmed in Tama County prior to coming to Waterloo in 1950. He then worked as a route salesman for Newkirk Sales for 28 years, retiring in 1978.
Emery was a 60-year member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He loved to hunt Morel mushrooms. Emery was highly sociable, golfing almost every day. He enjoyed fishing and did a lot of it in Hackensack, Minnesota. He grew wonderful tomatoes, though not necessarily to share.
Emery is survived by two sons Don Schnack and his wife Linda of Bend, Oregon, and Bob Jarosh and his wife Darlene of Waterloo, two daughters Jana Foster and her husband Jerry of Kingston, Washington, and Janan Burger of Waterloo, ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, adoptive parents; two sisters, a brother, son-in-law Ken Burger, and two grandchildren: Jim Schnack and Linda (Izzy) Scovill
