Elsie L. Christensen, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center on Thursday, September 25, 2008, of natural causes.

Elsie Louise was born on April 12, 1923, in Waterloo, the daughter of David M. and Karen Marie (Kristensen) Christensen. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1941. Elsie never married.

After 42 years, she retired in 1986 as Executive Secretary to the Director of Curriculum in the Waterloo Community Schools Administration Building.

Elsie was an active member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church; she helped establish the Bible School and Wednesday Night Church School, taught Sunday School to preschoolers, and served as Secretary on the Church Council for many years. She was a founding member and the First President of the Waterloo Educational Secretaries Association, and a Life Member of the National Association of Educational Secretaries.

Elsie is survived by niece Lisa Brumble Ruiz of Fresno, California, nephew Matthew Brumble of Phoenix, Arizona, and friends Juanita and Eddie Sage of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Ethel Christensen and Evelyn Brumble.
