Edward P. Nickles, 94, of Dysart, formerly of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center on Sunday, February 24, 2008, of natural causes.

Ed was born February 1, 1914, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Peter and Christina Tschepa Nickles.

He married Letha Smith on July 24, 1937, in Rockford, Illinois. She died December 3, 1986.

Ed worked at Headford Bros. in the Moulding Department for 35 years. He then was the janitor for ten years at Sacred Heart School. Later, he worked at the Waterloo Library until retirement.

He served in the Navy during WW II.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Ed is survived by daughter Patricia Schatz and her husband Arnold of Waterloo, grandchildren: Timothy Schatz and his wife Karen of Waterloo, Christina Parks of Marion, great grandchildren: Christopher, Holly, and Brianna of Marion, Tyler and Matthew of Waterloo, and Amber of Denver.

He is preceded in death by his wife, great grandson Andrew John Schatz, one brother, five sisters, and a half brother.
