Edna Rosina Dorathea Steffens was born in Eldorado, Iowa on March 5, 1919 to Edward H.M. Steffens and Frieda A.M. (Vagts) Steffens and passed away on December 23, 2010 at her home in Waterloo at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 28 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Edna attended Willow Springs School Dover No. 4 and graduated from the West Union High School in 1937.

She briefly worked in the Eldorado area doing housework; later she worked for Rath Packing Co. From there, she went to J.J. Meany Casket Co. after completing a business course and was a secretary for several years until the company moved out of Waterloo.

Edna enjoyed the outdoors. She especially enjoyed working with flowers. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, traveling, dancing, bowling and playing dominos.

Edna was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church where she was active in the Altar Guild, Sunday School Teacher, Church Choir and Treasurer for Women of the Church. She was also a member of Red Hat Society, and active with YWCA, Red Cross and Voting Polls volunteer.

Those left to cherish her memory are one sister Anita Parsons of West Union, IA; brother Lester Steffens of West Union, IA; brother Erbie (Geraldine) Steffens of Decorah, IA; brother Reuben (Mary) Steffens of Clermont, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Leona Steffens and brother-in-law Gerald “Jack “Parsons.
