Eddie Pritchard, 91, of Cedar Falls, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at home under the care of UnityPoint Hospice. Born August 14, 1934, in Boone, Eddie was the seventh child of Allie and Maggie (Crouse) Pritchard. He graduated from Boone High School in 1953, where he was remembered as the “big man on campus.”

Following high school, Eddie began a military career that spanned from 1953 to 1977. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army’s 404th Signal Company and then continued his service in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. Moving into civilian employment did not end his military career. He remained in the Guard and Reserve while working as a police officer in Sioux City during the 1960s, and he ultimately retired from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3).

Eddie married Alyce Jacob on June 5, 1955, in Lehigh, Iowa. Together they raised two children. Alyce died September 22, 2011. Eddie later married Phyllis Hathaway on April 12, 2014, in Waterloo.

After his years in law enforcement, Eddie became a security guard at the John Deere Foundry, where he worked for 23 years before retiring in 1997. Retirement did not slow him down. He continued sharing his knowledge of the company as a tour guide at John Deere plants.

Eddie’s commitment to service also shaped his church and community life. He studied lay ministry part-time at Cornell College and became a certified lay minister in 2016, filling in at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church and other area churches. At Kimball Avenue, he served as past president of both the Fireside Group and the Methodist Men’s Club, as head usher, as vice president of Community Meals Inc. for 20 years, and on numerous committees.

He was deeply involved with Martin Masonic Lodge No. 624 and was a two-time Past Master. His other memberships included Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Officers Association, and American Legion Post 237.

In his free time, Eddie enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and woodworking. He built cedar chests, rocking horses, cradles, and many other pieces. He also completed RAGBRAI seven times with the John Deere Foundry group.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Cedar Falls; son David (Kimberly) Pritchard of Waterloo; daughter Teresa (Dennis) Kaltenheuser of Elkhart; stepson Glenn (Jill Simpson) Dalbey of Waterloo; stepdaughter Susan (Jon Becker) Dalbey of Denver, Colorado; stepdaughter Jenifer (Joe Roling) Hathaway of Coggon; stepson Dustyn (April Hrach) Hathaway of San Francisco, California; grandchildren Amanda (Josh) Milligan, Allison (Kyle Hattrup) Pritchard, Karen Kaltenheuser, and Michael (Amela) Kaltenheuser; and sister-in-law Donna Pritchard of Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alyce; brothers Raymond, Albert, Earnest, and Elmer Pritchard; sisters Ruby Foes and Lois Ross; and stepson Philip Hathaway.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 6:00 p.m., and a Masonic service will follow at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning one hour before the service.
