Douglas Ray Brouwer, Jr., 49
March 18, 1975 – September 2, 2024
Dougie Woo Woo visited his last lemonade stand after losing his fearless battle with cancer. Woo was loved by so many because of his generosity and remarkable sense of humor which made him legendary. He could make even boring moments memorable to say the least, never knowing what to expect from his crazy outfits, his wild shoes, or his hysterical comments.
Dougie had a gift for finding the joy in everyday life and sharing it with others. Doug's giving nature was more than a trait; it was his way of life, putting everyone else's needs before his own. Doug made the world a better place, and the comfort he brought will be greatly missed.
Doug was born March 18, 1975, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Mary (Ridgeway) and Douglas "Butch" Brouwer, Sr. Doug grew up in Waterloo, graduating from Expo High School in 1994. For the last 18 years, Doug has been a dedicated employee of Viking Pump, previously working at Bertch Cabinets for six years and at Warren Transport for 10 years. For 12 years, Doug was the president of Local Union 1728 IAM International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, also holding various other support roles in his Union.
Doug's legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, especially in his heartbroken survivors: wife Carman; grandson, Kaden Bush; son, Andrew Bush; stepson, Noah Shavers; stepdaughter, Mari Shavers; mother, Mary Uting; twin brother Paul Brouwer and brother Zachary Uting; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, friends, and in-laws.
Meeting Doug in heaven is Nikki Kulaszewski; his favorite aunt, Sharon Garthoff; his father, grandparents and step-dad, Wade Uting.
A Celebration of Doug's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Waterloo, Iowa 50701 with a light reception immediately following and burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. A gathering will follow at K and M Korner in Dewar. Please wear orange, Doug's favorite color, to represent the joy he brought to all of us. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2024 at Locke at Tower Park and also the hour before the service.
