Douglas James Apfel

Douglas James Apfel, 72, of Waterloo, IA, died Monday, March 16, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center, Waterloo. He was born January 27, 1948, In Rice Lake, WI, the son of Harry and Hazel Secore Apfel.

Doug married Carol Schneider on October 7, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI.

He worked at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 2002 from the Engine Works. After retirement, he operated Doug’s Lawn Service for eight years.. He enjoyed street rod and car shows.

Doug is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Brenda Apfel of Albert Lea, MN; son, David Apfel of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Devin, Daniel, Rian, and Justin; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria (Gene) Van Beek of Cedar Rapids.

He is preceded in death by seven brothers, Jerry, Bob, Russell, Virgil, John, Dewey, and Dale in infancy.
