Dorothy E. Harbaugh, 81, of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center on Saturday, November 17, 2007.

Dorothy was born on September 21, 1926, in New York City, New York, the daughter of John and Eleanor Soltes Weber. She graduated in 1943 from Manhasset High School in New York.

Dorothy married Rudgar Shindley in 1945 in New Jersey and they later divorced. She married John Simpson in 1975 in Cedar Falls; he died in 1982. Dorothy married S. Forrest Harbaugh in 1985 in Waterloo; he died in 2003.

She was active in the Women’s Fellowship at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren; she was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and the West Orange and 15-30 Clubs. She also volunteered at Covenant Medical Center.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling. She and Forrest traveled extensively around the world and went camping and fishing throughout the U.S. in their travel trailer.

Dorothy is survived by daughter Barbara Simpson and her husband Dave of Cedar Falls, four sons: Rick Shindley and his wife Lynda of Big Lake, Minnesota, Dave Shindley and his wife Jolene of California, Bill Shindley of Cedar Falls, and Jon Simpson and his wife Vicki of Cedar Falls, stepdaughters: Debbie Perkins and her husband Joe of Waterloo and Peg Burnett of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and stepson James Harbaugh of Tyler, Texas. Also survived by eleven grandchildren, eleven step grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her brother Warren Weber and his wife Carol of Buford, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents and stepdaughter Judy Vallejo.
