Doris J. Slaikeu, 94, of La Porte City, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at La Porte City Specialty Care in La Porte City.

She was born on on July 7, 1930, in Lu Verne, daughter of Donald and Vera Gladys Smith Cameron. Doris graduated from Renwick High School in 1948. She married Duane Slaikeu on April 9, 1950,at the Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2020.

Doris was a very active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in La Porte City. She enjoyed spending time with her family. In school, she played girls basketball and she loved watch women's basketball.

Doris is survived by two sons, David (Kathy) Slaikeu of La Porte City, and Darwin (Denise) Slaikeu of Coal Valley, IL; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim (Ladonna) Cameron of Glenn Heights, TX, Dale (Colleen) Cameron of Loveland, CO, and Marvin (Sue) Cameron of Council Bluffs; and sister-in-law, Millie Cameron of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; two sons, Dwight and Douglas Slaikeu; and two brothers, Edward and Robert Cameron.

Funeral Services: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 501 Sycamore St., with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke in La Porte City is assisting the family, 319-342-3131.
