Donald Lawrence Ticknor

Waterloo – Donald L. Ticknor, 86 of Waterloo, died at Wellspring Living, Friendship Village on Monday, December 26, 2022. He was born September 27, 1936, in Germantown, WI, son of Lawrence G. and Grace W. Saunders (Levendusky) Ticknor. Lawrence passed away early in Don's life. Grace later married George Levendusky and he helped raise Don as a young man. Don graduated from East High School in 1954. Don married Helen L. Beebe on October 22, 1955, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Evansdale. She died January 13, 2017.

Don served in the Iowa Army National Guard Aviation Maintenance for 26 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1980. He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. He volunteered with the Memorial Hall Commission and was involved in an Antique Car Club. He was a member of the Evansdale AmVets. Don loved his family, his extended Amish family, family camping trips, trout fishing, hunting and the Waterloo Black Hawks.

He is survived by his children: Dawn (Steve) Lowe of Waterloo; Tina Ticknor of Waterloo; Larry (Paula) Ticknor of Janesville.

Five grandchildren: Adam (Leah) Ticknor, Donald J. (Annie Nicholson) Ticknor, David Ticknor, Neal (Breanne) Ticknor, and Aaron (Bernice) Ticknor. Ten great grandchildren: Parker, Kaelyn, Alivia, Brilee, Wyatt, Luke, Grant, Harper, Ellie, and Maeve. One great great grandson: Greysen.

He was preceded by his parents, stepdad, George Levendusky. His wife, Helen and daughter, Cindy Buck.

Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1024 W 8th St., Waterloo.

Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery with military rites by the Iowa Army National Guard and the Evansdale AmVets Post 31.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo

Memorials: Directed to the family.
