Donald Eugene Phillis

Donald E. Phillis, 90, of Elk Run Heights, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born October 17, 1933, in Valentine, NE, son of Gerald E. and Eunice Clark Phillis. After graduating high school Don went on to a technical school to learn electrical engineering.

Don married Betty Ann Muller May 1, 1954, in Rapid City, South Dakota; she preceded him in death on December 7, 2021.

He worked as an electrical engineer, television repairman, and his last job lasting for over 35+ years was at River Forest Truck Repair as a bookkeeper and office manager. Don enjoyed going fishing and camping and going to the casino. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Don was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Don is survived by his children, Donna Schmitt of Evansdale, Betty Jean (Leonard) Surly of Waterloo, Steven (Mary) Phillis of Evansdale, Clarcie (Dave) Bovis of Waterloo, Kathleen (Brent) Cornelius of Kesley, and, from his first marriage, Dana Tetrick of Wyoming; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; son-in-law, Tom Schmitt; and three brothers, Jerry, Frank, and Dick Phillis.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, January 29, 2023, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.
