Donald E. "Don" Swanson, 92, of Hudson went to live with Jesus on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at his home in Hudson under the care of St. Croix Hospice. He was born on February 17, 1930, in Swea City, the son of F. Albert and Laura A. Armstrong Swanson. Don graduated from the Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and served in the United States Army Air Corps. He married Phyllis M. Liverance on November 23, 1955, at the East Janesville Methodist Church.
Don worked for Montgomery Ward, Titus Manufacturing and Viking Pump, as a machinist, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. Don enjoyed helping family, picking up pop cans for the deposit, reading, word search games and traveling. He flew on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2018.
Don was met in Heaven by children and great grandchildren he had never met and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis, of Hudson and his children, Dennis (Sharon) Swanson of Arden Hills, MN, Melody (Paul) Reynolds of Red Wing, MN, Doug (Connie) Swanson of Helotes, TX and Gregory Swanson of Hudson. Don is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Isaac (Brittney) Swanson, Rebekah Swanson, Mathew (Amber) Reynolds, Rachel (Adam) Peterson, Ian Swanson, Todd (Kelli) Swanson, Brock (Grazy) Swanson, Ryan (Sarah) Swanson, Stephanie (Ryan) Donnelly, Nick (Sarah Jones) Swanson, Megan Swanson, Kimberly (Jack) Kohaut and Grace Swanson. He is also survived by great grandchildren Hezekiah, Silas, Ezra and Tierza Reynolds; Coby and Adrah Peterson; Rowan and Wilder Swanson; Lucas Swanson; Ashton and Alexis Swanson and Jameson Donnelly; and a great grandson whom the family is expecting in July; brother, O. Jay (Diane) Swanson of Manti, UT; sister, Marilyn Fight of Leavenworth, KS; and other family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald, and great granddaughter, Alicia Swanson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, June 17, 2022, at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. Burial with Military Honors will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Croix Hospice or Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family.
