Donald Dean Isenhower, 89, of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by family at Creekside Living in Grundy Center.
Donald was born on September 1, 1935, in Waterloo, son of Robert C. and Elizabeth Taylor Isenhower. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1954. Donald married Lola M. Burnell on August 9, 1959, at Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo.
Donald started working at 16 as a crane operator building bridges with Taylor-Isenhower Construction, Inc., started by his father, Robert Isenhower, and grandfather, Stanley Taylor. He later worked at Iowa Bridge and Culvert, in Washington, IA, until his retirement in 2000 at the age of 65.
He served in the Marine Corps for six years starting in 1958. He was a lifelong member of the AMVETS Post 82 in Hudson, serving as a cook, commander, and member of the funeral honor guard. He was also a lifelong member of the Freemasons, and Boy Scout leader.
He loved making, fixing, and building things. Such as leather bags filled with marbles and stools for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed collecting hats, antiques, and tools.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lola of Hudson; son, Steven (Lori) Isenhower of Hudson; three daughters, Treva (Robert) Stoeckel of Bellevue, NE, Linda (William Gull) Isenhower of West Des Moines, and Becky (Mark) Yuska of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Jessica (Joey) Warnell, Tami (Brett) Johannsen, Jennifer Isenhower (Connor Feely), Catharine Griefnow, Abbey (Robert) Zacek, and Ava and Ali Yuska, great-grandchildren, Connor, Cohen, and Cooper Warnell; Addilyn and Beckett Johannsen, and Atlas Feely; sister, JoAnn Adams of Hudson; sister-in-law Dorothy Isenhower of Reinbeck; and many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Isenhower; sister, Susan Walters; and brothers-in-law, William Walters and Bert Adams.
Funeral service will be held Friday March 14, 2025, at 11:30 AM, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place in Hudson Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Research Hospital, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Hudson AMVETS.
