Diane Barfels, 69, of Evansdale, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Diane was born on August 11, 1956, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Robert and Ruth See. She graduated from East High in 1974.
Diane married Charles Barfels on May 20, 1978, at Sunnyside Temple in Waterloo. She worked at Waterloo Industries and later worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids and retired in 2022.
Diane attended Hope City Church in Waterloo. Diane enjoyed gardening and flowers, riding motorcycles, and trips to Colorado. She enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling and Iowa Hawkeyes Football. She also loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, Charlie.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Barfels; two sons, Charles (Abby) Barfels of Waterloo, and Dan (Ashley) Barfels of Littleton CO; grandchildren, Aubrey Van Wey, Jersey Barfels, Britain Barfels, Charles Barfels (CJ), Stevie Barfels, Alivia Barfels, and Ian Barfels; great-grandson, Xavier Van Wey; four sisters, Ruth Nisius’ of Reinbeck, Mary “Red” Back of Evansdale, Robin (Dan) Klein of Waterloo, and Wanda “Woody” Woods of Waterloo; and brother, Robert “Bob”(Patti) See of Evansdale.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers-in-law, Mel Nisius, Jerry Back, and Curt Barfels.
Services: 2:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2026, Locke on 4th Street, Waterloo, with visitation for an hour prior to service. Inurnment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Big Charlie , Charlie Joe, and Danny, Diane will b forever missed she had a spirit that could be a force to be reckoned with or as gentle as a summer breeze but she loved with everything in her. I am so thankful to have been her friend and had her in my life. She will always b in my heart.
