Deane Leo Werner

June 27, 1929 July 23, 2024

Deane Werner, 95, of La Porte City, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls.

Deane was born on June 27, 1929, at the family home to his parents, Edward L., and Alma S. (Gill) Werner. Deane received his education from St. Mary's School in Eagle Center. Following his graduation, he worked with his family in farming and drove trucks for Brown Trucking. Deane then went on to join the United States Army before returning home to continue working with his dad and brother, Caryl.

On November 11, 1963, Deane, and Nancy Appleton Federspiel united in marriage at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center. Deane welcomed Nancy and her two small children into their new rural home outside of La Porte City. They continued to expand their family to include three more children. Deane's love of that farm kept him there all 95 years of his life. Deane was a life-long member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and La Porte City American Legion Post #207 USS San Diego.

Over the years, Deane and Nancy enjoyed socializing among their several card clubs and never missed a Mass, even if they were on vacation. While Deane was a quiet and humble man, he always had a witty side, bringing a good laugh to whoever he was with. Deane wanted for nothing and never wanted to be a burden to anyone. He was always proud of his family and appreciated the shortest visits, especially if they came with a Hershey bar! Deane will always be remembered as a faithful, caring, and humble man.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy; parents; brother, Caryl Werner; sisters, Donna Hilmer, Dorothy Schmidt, and Marilyn Corkery; and an infant brother.

Deane is survived by his three sons, Mike (Yvonne) Werner of La Porte City, Mark (Robin) Werner of Dysart, and Matt (Andrea) Werner of Mt. Auburn; two daughters, Karla of Waterloo, and Karen (Tom) McLaren of Germantown Hills, IL; 11 grandchildren, Valerie Hoy, Crystal (Mike) Spence, Jesse (Brittany) Werner, Ray (Kelsey) Werner, Ivy (Kyle) Cleveland, Isabelle Werner, Kyle and Noah McLaren, Jacob, Josie, and Jaren Werner; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alice Werner.
