David E. Swanson, 76, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Sunday, February 2, 2014 of natural causes.

David Earl Swanson was born June 13, 1937 in Rochester, Minnesota, son of Earl R. and Sybil L. Petersen Swanson.

He served in the U.S. Army with Co C 37th Engineer Battalion from 1954 to 1957. David was a member of Waterloo VFW Post #1623.

He married Sharon Smith on June 11, 1960 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

David worked at Swiss Valley Farms for over 20 years in the loading and receiving department. Later, he worked in maintenance at Friendship Village, retiring in 2001 after several years.

He is survived by his wife Sharon of Waterloo; children: Kammi Clabaugh and her husband Dean of Elk Run Heights and Kyle of Waterloo; granddaughter Cayla Tucker; two step grandchildren: Jason Clabaugh and his wife Sue and Amy Walters; great grandson Jeremiah Tucker; and five step great grandchildren: Austin and Hayden Clabaugh and Emily, Ashley and Lacy Walters. David is also survived by his two brothers: Roger of Rochester and Richard and his wife Diane of Ocala, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Kory in 2010.
