Obituary for David G. Grant

David G. “Dave” Grant passed away at his home July 15, 2025, of a sudden cardiac event at the age of 60 years old. He was born May 24, 1965, in Freeport, IL. He graduated from Freeport High School and later IBM training. David married Jana Mendel June 25, 1988, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL.

He lived a beautiful life, devoted to being unapologetically himself, and loved spending time with his wife, kids, family and friends. He loved basketball, tennis, and working outside or working on a car, and was an avid music lover and card game player.

David owned his own computer contracting business, Technicality “aka” Grant Computer Services for 34 years before retiring in 2023. In his retirement, David pursued his true passion, custom woodworking. He enjoyed creating and producing custom furniture pieces and cutting boards, which he made with love for family and friends.

He is survived in death by his wife, Jana Grant of Waterloo; daughters, Kayley and Aubrey of Waukee; son, D.J. Grant of Waterloo; mother, Charlotte Grant of Freeport, IL. mother-in-law, Jan Mendel of Waterloo; Uncle and Aunt, Paul and Shirley Bush of Waterloo; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Phill Goedken of Gowrie; 2 nieces; 5 nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, LaVerne “Jack” Mendel, and grandma, Mary Bush.

Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo.
