Craig A. Holdiman, 77, of Waterloo, died July 30, 2026, at Wellspring Health Center in Waterloo. He was born January 31, 1949, in Waterloo, the son of Arthur R. and Evelyn M. (Taber) Holdiman. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1967 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971.
He married Sharon Buenger June 5, 1982, in Frederika at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Out of college, Craig taught chemistry for one year at Blessed Sacrament which he gained some great relationships with students but learned teaching was not for him. He then worked at First Federal Savings and Loan as an appraiser. Later, he owned and operated Holdiman Appraisals since 1985 and retired after 53 years of appraising properties.
Craig was a member of the First Congregational Church where he was actively serving. He was Past President of Waterloo Exchange Club, the Heartland District Exchange Club and was Past President of the Waterloo School Board. He was a member of the Proud Image Chorus. Craig was also in the Royals Drum and Bugle Corp, when he aged out, he became an instructor. He served in several county and city civic organizations over the years. He had a passion for older cars and could generally tell the year and style just by the roar of the engine.
Craig is survived by his wife Sharon of Waterloo; his children, Sara (Brian) Lynch of Waterloo and Clark (Cherie) Holdiman of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Corina Holdiman, Callie Holdiman and Mackenzie Lynch; his stepmother, Sandy Holdiman of Cedar Falls; two stepbrothers, Steve (Denise) Miller of Waterloo and Bryan Miller of the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services are 11:00 am Friday, August 7, 2026, at the First Congregational Church, Waterloo.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo.
Memorials are directed to the family at this time.

Sharon, we became good friends through Our time in the Waterloo Chevalier’s Drum and Bugle Corps and West High School. We would get together when I was working on the construction of John Deere plants. I moved to Cedar Rapids and stayed in Waterloo. Our favorite Chinese restaurant was next to Morg’s. Craig Holdiman’s passing is a great loss to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Teri and I knew Craig for many years, and I especially valued the Exchange Club lunches we shared. Over those times of conversation, laughter, and friendship, I saw how talented, dedicated, hardworking, caring, and thoughtful he was. He quietly earned the friendship, respect, and admiration of everyone around him.
Craig was always generous and took pride in his work. His kindness, skill, dedication, and genuine concern for others were evident throughout his life.
Craig was also a talented singer. His choir and barbershop performances brought joy to many and showed both his skill and his generosity in sharing it. Those who heard him sing will remember his voice and the happiness he brought through his music.
I will miss seeing Craig across the table at our Exchange Club lunches. Often, it’s the simple moments—sitting together, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company—that become our most treasured memories when someone is suddenly gone.
Our hearts go out to Sharon, Craig’s family, and his many friends. Teri and I are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers. We ask God to surround them with love, give them strength in the days ahead, and bring comfort and peace through the memories of Craig’s life.
Craig made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew him. He was respected, admired, and loved, and he will be missed. Teri and I are grateful to have known him, and I will always be thankful for the years of friendship and time we shared.
