Colleen Ann Gates

Colleen Ann Gates, 73, of Waterloo, died at her home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, surrounded by family.

She was born August 16, 1951, in Waterloo, daughter of Adolph and LaVae V. (Staley) Hippen. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1969. She married Dennis Gates in 1974, they later divorced. She worked at Siebert's Laundry, Parkview Nursing and then was a homemaker in her own home. Colleen was a member of the Hagerman Baptist Church in Waterloo. She was known for her amazing cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls. Every once in a while, she could be found scratching a lottery ticket.

Colleen is survived by her sons: Kevin Gates, and Curtis Gates, both of Waterloo; one grandchild; her siblings, Charlene (Marvin) Surly, Carlene Hippen, Teresa (Rodney) Siebrands, all of Waterloo, Peggy Clowser of Gillette, WY, and Paul (Crescent) Hippen of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Michael Hippen, Ronnie Dinzy, and Timothy Hippen; and her former husband, Dennis Gates.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Hagerman Baptist Church, 1105 Knoll Ave, Waterloo, with a visitation to take place one hour prior.
