Christopher B. “Chris” Smith, 61, of Evansdale died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of cancer.

Chris was born January 26, 1954 in Waterloo, the son of Dr. Gerald and Marguerite Shane Smith. He married Jane Andreassen June 24, 1989 at Grace Baptist Church.

Chris graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1972; and then from Hawkeye Inst. of Tech with a degree in Electronic Engineering. From 1972 to 1974 he worked for Hy-Vee; then went to work for John Deere as a Product Test Specialist at the PEC until retiring June 30, 2013.

He attended Grace Baptist Church. Chris loved and adored his family. He was an avid sports fan. Chris coached sports teams for his kids and the church. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Chris was a good joke teller and had a great sense of humor. He was very orderly and meticulous, especially when it came to his cars.

He is survived by his wife Jane of Evansdale; a son Cody and his wife Hannah of Davenport; a daughter Abby Woods and her husband Aaron of Waterloo; and two granddaughters: Amara and Elyse. He is also survived by his brother Doug (Julie Youngblut Smith) Smith of Cedar Rapids and a brother-in-law Rod Mountain of Columbus, Ohio.

Chris is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Cheri Mountain.
