Charles J. “Charlie” Waychoff, 44, of Thornton, Colorado, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, August 28, 2026, at his home.
He was born December 28, 1981, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of John and Diane O’Brien Waychoff. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 2000. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
Charlie relocated to Denver, Colorado, and was employed in the wholesale Plastics Industries for several years and was currently employed as a Warehouse Manager at the time of his death. Charlie designed into production an octopus toy ring for the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO, and his “vision for a parabolic wheelchair bowling ramp” was chosen by the U.S. Paralympic Games. Charlie was an excellent speller. He won 3rd place in the Iowa State Spelling Bee his 8th grade year. His expertise was a godsend to his Dad who would always call him as to how to spell a word, Charlie always knew.
Survivors include: fur baby, Bugsy (aka BugBug); his parents of Waterloo; a sister, Angie (Bob) Wallace of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two nephews, Ryan Wallace of Cañon City, Colorado and Stone Wallace of Colorado Springs; a niece, Summer Wallace of Colorado Springs; four aunts, Dawn (Tim) Henry and Debbie (Gary) Heinick, both of Waterloo, Cheryl Buelow of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Debby (Bob) Esser of Dubuque.
Preceded in death by: both paternal and maternal grandparents; an aunt, Patty Waychoff; and two uncles, Dennis (Dolores) O’Brien and Paul (June) O’Brien.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1425 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 4, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. There will be no visitation at the church before services. Memorials may be directed to the Big Bones Canine Rescue in Windsor, Colorado, where Charlie fostered dogs or the Sunrise Children’s Zoo in Waterloo.
