Catherine Joyce Knapp, 92 of Waterloo, died Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at her home in Waterloo with family at her side. She was born November 30, 1933, in Fayette County, IA., the daughter of John and Winnie (Green) Boleyn. She married Frederick G. Knapp Jr. on June 18, 1951, at Grace Brethren Church, Waterloo. He died September 29, 2022. To this union the couple was blessed with five children, Steve, Judy, Ron, Tom and Rich.

Catherine was a homemaker in the home. She was a longtime member of the Cedar Valley Church and Grace Baptist Church and served as a greeter and various roles in the church over the years. She was friends with several of the neighbor ladies who worked outside of the home and helped with laundry and babysitting services. She worked at the Gold Bond / Green Stamp Store and also worked at the Kool Kids Daycare in Waterloo. Fun fact: In her 92 years, Catherine never got her driver’s license and never learned how to drive. She always took the bus to the library because she loved to read.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Lori) Knapp, Judy Smock and Richard Knapp, all of Waterloo. 14 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Catherine is preceded in death by her Husband: Fred Knapp, Jr., Parents, Two sons: Ronald and Thomas Knapp. Sisters: Darlene Decker, Marilyn Freeman, Julia Anderson, Carolyn Smith, Elaine Nichols and Jean Schiel and brother, Doyle Boleyn.
