Carolyn Ann Weir Troudt, 77, of Waterloo, courageously won her battle over life on March 16, 2023, while a patient at UnityPoint Health–Allen Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1945, in Graettinger, IA, the daughter of Johnny and Flossie Sherman Weir. Carolyn married Charles Reiter and Roger Veldhuizen, with both marriages ending in divorce. She married Ron Troudt on July 27, 1996. Carolyn worked her entire career as a patient assistant at Schoitz Hospital (later Covenant Hospital) until her retirement in 1995.
Carolyn was full of life. As a woman who put her family first, she was the one person you could count on to provide child-raising advice. She wanted her children and grandchildren to be the best they could be and pushed them towards that goal. But Carolyn could also be an instigator and she frequently showed her love by "stirring the pot," sometimes just for fun. Carolyn enjoyed showing horses in her youth and loved watching and feeding her birds. Travel, snowmobile riding, showing horses and camping were many of the activities she had enjoyed over the course of her life. Carolyn also loved to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. And she is especially remembered for her scalloped potatoes and ham.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ron of Waterloo; children Carrie Morgan of Dike, IA, Christine (Todd Barie) Reiter and Chad Reiter, both of Estherville, IA, and Ryan (Debbie) Veldhuizen of Farr West, UT; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren (plus one on the way!); sisters Shirley (Jim) Bates of Graettinger and Judy Iverson of Estherville; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Holly Reiter at birth; and brothers Robert Weir and Ron Weir.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Locke on 4th, 1519 W 4th St., Waterloo with burial to follow at Waterloo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, 5:00 to 7 PM. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
