Betty I. Schuman, 101, of La Porte City, IA, died on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at La Porte City Specialty Care at La Porte City.
She was born on October 22, 1924, in Independence, IA, to Harvey and Gertrude Schultz Howland.
She was a 1942 graduate of Cresco High School.
Betty married Harding A. Schuman on May 4, 1943, in Cresco; he preceded her in death on February 4, 2008.
She worked at Hinson Manufacturing.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City.
Betty sang in the choir and was a choir director at the EUB Church; She was 4-H leader and den mother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, bingo, playing cards, crocheting, embroidery, puzzles, trips to the casino and most importantly, watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverly Palmer of La Porte City; daughter, Barbara (Wesley) Walker of Muscatine; son, James (Jan) Schuman of Waterloo; son, Jon (Cindy) Schuman of Johnston; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Raymond Howland and brother, Gerald Howland.

    My condolences for your loss. I have many many fond memories of Betty. Being able to play with the grand kids when they visited. To her keeping the neighborhood kids in line when playing in the ooen lot next to their house (especially when a ball hit the house!)

    I remember Betty from the years she was in the birthday club with my mom and other women in La Porte City. As a young girl I would listen to them laughing and playing cards and Betty’s laugh was unforgettable. My condolences for your loss.
