Beryl E. “Betty” Smith, 91, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Rosewood Estate of Friendship Village Friday, July 25, 2014.

Beryl Ena Keeble was born August 13, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Louis and Maude Poole Keeble.

She graduated in the 1940’s from a business college in Winnipeg. This is where she learned the art of shorthand and used to make notes for herself in this manner.

Betty married Preston B. Smith on August 15, 1946 at Holy Trinity Church in Winnipeg. He died December 18, 1998. After Preston came home from the Korean War they made their lifelong home on Bayard St. in Waterloo. They would visit Canada 3 to 4 times a year.

Preston was very active with the Shriner’s and Betty accompanied him to many different events. She was very active with her church, especially in the choir as she loved to sing.

She worked at the Schukei Chevrolet dealership for many years until retirement.

Survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Preston and a brother.
