Berneice Ackerman, 89, passed away Thursday March 20, 2014 in Waterloo at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Berneice was born to Glenn and Viola Smith Barron on January 18, 1925 in Waterloo.

She graduated from East High School in 1943 and then went to work in the office of Iowa Public Service until she married Robert G. Ackerman on December 1, 1948 in Waterloo. Robert died April 10, 2003.

Berneice was a longtime member of Hammond Ave. Brethren Church where she worked with the ladies on funeral lunches. She enjoyed cooking, baking pies, gardening and canning, but especially loved spending time with her family and granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughters Judy (Alyn Johnson) Van Raden of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Donald) Gardner of Waterloo and her granddaughter Lindee (Ronald) Tenge of Janesville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Corrine Aschbrenner and brother Edgar Barron.
