Arnold R. “Babe” Schatz, 74, of Waterloo, died at his home on Monday, March 31, 2008, of cancer.

Babe was born May 11, 1933 in Waterloo, the son of John and Anna H. Suhr Schatz.

He married Patricia Nickles on September 1, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Babe was a supervisor at Rath Packing Co. in the Bacon Dept. where he oversaw 72 employees. He was a former co-partner with George Faris at the Ranchero Saddle Shop and was also involved with Faris Trucking.

He served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean War.

Babe is survived by his wife Pat of Waterloo, daughter Christina Parks of Marion, son Timothy and his wife Karen of Waterloo, six grandchildren: Christopher, Holly, and Brianna of Marion, Tyler and Matthew of Waterloo, and Amber of Denver, sisters: Ruth Schatz of Waterloo and Mary Ann Schatz of Escondido, California, and brother Robert Schatz of Waterloo.

Babe is preceded in death by grandson Andrew John Schatz.
