Ann Kathryn Kirk passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Sunrise Hill, Traer, IA, under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Interment was held at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Locke Funeral Services is handling arrangements.

Ann was born December 14, 1940, in Waterloo, IA, to James D and Mary I. Nelson Kirk. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1959. During that time, she was baptized at Central Christian Church, Waterloo, IA. Ann went on to graduate from Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1963. She furthered her education with a master’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa in 1969. Ann was a guidance counselor with the Waterloo School System until her retirement.

Ann enjoyed dining out with friends. She liked Springer Spaniel dogs, reading the newspaper, and solving the crossword puzzle.

Ann is survived by her brother, Craig Kirk, of Iowa City; sister-in-law Julie Kirk of Colorado Springs, CO; and nephew US Air Force Major Christopher Kirk and his wife Katherine and their children James and Theodore of Germany; and niece Katie Kirk of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Steve Kirk.

The family extends their gratitude to all the Sunrise Hill employees for their compassionate and loving care. May she rest in peace.
