Andy Lee Rowe, 67, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Andy was born on December 30, 1958, in Webster City, to Robert J. and Janet E. (Severson) Rowe. During his formative years, he attended schools in Webster City, Central City, Cedar Rapids, Livermore, and Manly as his father was a grain elevator manager in those towns. As he adapted to each community, Andy participated in baseball and basketball. As a freshman at North Central of Manly, he led the team in batting average and played varsity basketball. Andy was also a gifted bowler, averaging over 200 in league play, and he enjoyed playing golf. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1977. Andy married Becky L. Kidwell on September 3, 1993, in Clarion. Andy and Becky moved from Webster City in 2004, settling in Waterloo to be closer to family.
One of Andy’s first jobs during high school was at Mertz Engineering in Webster City, where he produced precision metal fabrications for various factories, and made lifelong friendships with his coworkers. On weekends, he enjoyed racing Enduro motorcycles with these friends. Among Andy’s varied work experiences, one of his fondest was spent in Ketchikan, Alaska, unloading Trident crab boats with a crane. In 1984, Andy became a partner with his brother Marty in a siding and window business serving Clarion, Webster City, and the surrounding areas. The brothers ran the business together until their retirement in 2002, during which time a typical season included completing work so they could go fishing in Canada a couple of times a year. After retiring from exterior home improvement, Andy began working at Home Depot as a sales consultant, taking orders from contractors and homeowners-a role that suited him well, thanks to his ability to put people at ease-a trait he had exhibited throughout his life.
Andy relished the outdoors; fishing and golfing were among his favorite pastimes. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up and cheering them on at their sporting events and activities. A passionate sports fan, Andy proudly supported the Iowa Hawkeyes and the New York Jets. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Waterloo and previously participated in a weekly online Bible study with his brother and sister, Scott and Kelle, and Bill Hanke, a family friend. He made friends from all walks of life and was known for his generosity and genuine care for others. He shared and enjoyed nicknaming others in a positive way and will be remembered for his outgoing sense of humor. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Judy Rowe.
Andy is survived by his wife, Becky Rowe of Waterloo; stepdaughters, Tammy (Dan) Barth of Cedar Falls, Kelly (Chris) Bovone of San Jose, CA, and Jennifer (Chad) Hartz of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Travis) Hagensick, Alexis (Mike Weber) Barth, Shelby Axtell, Ashley (Jake Halbmaier) Barth, Sydney (Oren) Charles, Jackson (Olivia) Barth, Caden Hartz, Giavanna Bovone, Carson Hartz, Luca Bovone, and Natalia Bovone; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marty (Anecita) Rowe of Clear Lake, Scott (Jesenia) Rowe of Seattle, WA, and Arkelle “Kelly” Hagan of Frenchtown, MT; and nieces and nephews, Kami (Pat) Galles, Grant (Cierra) Rowe, Seth and August Hagan, Rachel, Blake, Toni Lee. and Jordan Kei, and Lyle and McKaia; great-nieces and nephews, Alaina, Kreighton, Graci; and sister-in-law, Heidi Rowe.
